Childhood sexual abuse is a difficult and sensitive topic that many individuals find uncomfortable to discuss. However, it is crucial to address this topic, as many children have suffered from abuse. We must stay informed so we can keep our children safe and protected.
To help raise awareness about this critical issue, the Dailonna Dozier Help Foundation hosted a free webinar aimed at shedding light on childhood sexual abuse and how to prevent it. Our guest speaker for the session was Anita Joyner, the founder of Where the Healing Begins, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that offers support services to survivors of abuse. Ms. Joyner developed the "Teach Me to Tell" program, designed to assist parents and educators in teaching children how to safely report child abuse.
During the webinar, participants learned some shocking statistics: 1 in 10 children will experience sexual abuse before their 18th birthday. In the United States alone, there are nearly 42 million survivors of sexual abuse. These numbers are deeply disturbing, as both boys and girls are impacted by this horrific reality.
A key focus of the webinar was empowering children with the knowledge and confidence to speak up if they have been abused. It is vital for children to understand that they can safely report abuse, whether it involves themselves, or someone they know. Parents were taught effective techniques to create an open, supportive environment where children feel safe enough to share their experiences. It was a very enlightening and informative session.
Dailonna Dozier Help Foundation is committed to providing resources that empower both youth and parents. Through education and awareness, we aim to provide the tools necessary where youth can grow and thrive.
